BUTU Magazine Issue 3 "Collectives"
This issue represents the start of what we hope to be a long tradition of community-submitted work. Our open call was met with great enthusiasm, with an overwhelming number of submissions, all hoping to be featured in our next issue. For this, we are exceedingly grateful, as it signifies a new and exciting avenue of growth for the Butu project. Many of the pieces seen in this issue came directly from that open call, allowing us to expand the issue to feature more artists, perspectives and work than ever before. Butu has evolved from a project spearheaded largely by one man to a collective of contributors in and of itself.
This issue brings you the collective visions of Zee-2, the Antwerp 6+1 and Fairies with a dash of Ivorian Mysticism presented in the lushest colours you’ve ever seen. Butu is home to voices all across the world, with work from Germany, Trinidad, the UK and many others being seen across its pages.
As we endeavour to seek out our places in the world’s collectives, we hope this issue continues to highlight their everlasting value.

Butu Mag as a project spawned from a desire to tell stories outside the contemporary, its ethos is rooted in the aim to bring fresh eyes to works, artists, and narratives just beyond the surface. A deep focus on productivity and the mechanics of creation has led us to interrogate process as a concept. All the artists and voices featured in this issue of the magazine hold their creative process very close to their heart. In an effort to further illuminate where great work comes from, they have opened up their working processes in this issue.
